Volvo Logistics confers top award on Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics

The award praised WWL for its "consistent holistic and outstanding work towards sustainability that serves as an inspiration to others."

It was presented to Kristofer Andrén, Managing Director, and Corporate Account Manager, WWL, Sweden branch office, by Åke Niklasson, CEO, Volvo Logistics Corporation at the Volvo Logistics Supplier Day in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The award citation also paid tribute to WWL for its "tough environmental objectives and visions, well ahead of legislation, set within concrete goals."

Kristofer Andrén said: "WWL is deeply honoured to receive this inaugural Volvo Logistics Corporation award. It is gratifying to learn that our three core values of safety, quality and the environment are shared and mirrored by Volvo."

Volvo Logistics has used WWL as its premier outbound logistics service provider for over 20 years.

From Sweden, WWL ships Volvo vehicles on various trades to five continents. WWL will shortly strengthen its service offering the company and other customers in Sweden new twice-monthly direct sailings to Australia.

WWL's association with the Volvo family also extends to the 2008-09 Volvo Ocean Race for which WWL is managing the total supply chain logistics for the race, billed as the 'Everest of sailing'.

In addition, WWL is running a unique experiment with VOR yacht crews to collect water samples between the ocean legs. The samples will be examined to determine the amount of micro organisms, expressed as biomass, contained in the sea water. The project's aim is to track the amount of life in the oceans, including both coastal regions and open oceans that VOR crews visit, and assess the risk posed by invasive species in the oceans.
