Volkswagen Group Award 2009 presented to DB Schenker
As a VW premium supplier, DB Schenker is one of the winners of the Volkswagen Group’s “Group Award 2009”. Dr. Karl-Friedrich Rausch, Member of the Management Board of DB Mobility Logistics AG and responsible for the Transportation and Logistics Division, accepted the renowned award in Wolfsburg. The “Volkswagen Group Award” is awarded annually to suppliers in recognition of their overall entrepreneurial performance.
Schenker Automotive Railnet GmbH (SAR), a subsidiary of DB Schenker Rail Automotive, received the award for their outstanding commitment in planning and implementing the logistics concept to supply the new Volkswagen/Skoda plant in Kaluga, 150 kilometers south of Moscow. The automobile manufacturer’s logistics partners who received the award also included OJSC TransContainer, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, RZD, that works closely with DB Schenker in the project. DB Schenker is the general contractor and since 2008 has coordinated the services of six freight railways, various operators, as well as other sub-contractors between Central Europe and VW’s location in Russia.
“With its nine brands and a grand total of 62 sites worldwide, Volkswagen offers very diverse and interesting opportunities for cooperation and is today already one of the world’s most future-proof automakers. For our award-winning top suppliers in particular, the Group’s growth course presents an enormous opportunity for a successful future in spite of the present adverse conditions.” said Dr. Javier Garcia Sanz, Member of the Management Board of Volkswagen AG responsible for Procurement. “We need strong partners who are competitive on the international stage and have a global presence to jointly safeguard our future.”
Dr. Karl-Friedrich Rausch noted: “It is an important seal of quality for our services when Europe’s leading automobile manufacturer counts us as one of his premium suppliers. We received the award for our products, our innovative strength, competent project management and our joint efforts to achieve greater efficiency and environmental friendliness. The award is an incentive for us to further expand our services for our customers in the important automotive logistics segment.”
