Logwin opens new location in St. Petersburg
The logistics service provider Logwin put a new location in St. Petersburg in Russia into operation in October 2008. The modern new building has around 8,000 square metres of warehousing and logistics space with 18,000 pallet storage positions and approximately 1,000 square metres of office space. The facility can be extended at any time if required.
The new Logwin site replaces the old location in St. Petersburg. “As a link between maritime transportation, the inland waterways and the rail system, St. Petersburg is an important crossroads for the whole Eastern European and Northern Asian region” says Robert Müller, Managing Director Road + Rail Eastern Europe.
“Moving to the modern logistics centre puts us in the best possible position and we are better able to respond to our customers' specific requirements.” A great advantage of the new site is its convenient location on the city's orbital motorway. The site is also well connected to the railway network via nearby railway siding.
Bundled expertise
The new logistics centre took around eight months to build. 15 new Logwin trucks were also brought into operation when it was commissioned. The logistics provider bundles the competences of its three business segments Solutions, Air + Ocean and Road + Rail at the new location. In addition to international air and ocean transportation, Logwin performs warehousing services and a comprehensive range of additional services in St. Petersburg. The 110 staff at the new location work primarily for customers in the food industry and in the automotive sector. Thanks to its convenient location, the logistics centre will perform an important function as a cross-docking centre.
Logwin in Russia
Parallel to the opening of the new site, the logistics service provider presented itself for the first time in Russia under the new Logwin brand. The company had previously been known by the name of Welz. Logwin has been present in St. Petersburg since 1992. Further Russian offices can be found in Moscow, Nizhniy Novgorod, Novosibirsk and Velikij Novgorod. The company employs around 140 staff here in total. The range of services covers full-service logistics, after sales service as well as LCL and FCL transportation. Logwin Russia has specialist knowledge in the automotive and FMCG fields. Robert Müller explains, “Demand for industry-specific logistics solutions is high. We are meeting the growing demand by continuously extending our range of services.”
