DB Schenker strengthens logistics on the rails throughout Europe
DB Schenker Logistics has now positioned itself to meet the increasing demand for rail-related logistics throughout Europe. The “DB SCHENKERrailog” service epitomizes logistics concepts incorporating rail. This service is a component of the land transport services offered by DB Schenker and the national companies. Five regions coordinate activities in the countries from Sweden to Italy, from France to Greece and to Turkey.
DB Schenker is thus consolidating the years of experience and expertise of the companies Railog and Fertrans, and combining them with the existing rail logistics competence acquired by the country organizations. “We are now further improving the assistance provided to our customers with integrating rail into planning and processes as a carrier of ecological and economic interest,” says Karl Nutzinger, Member of the Board of Management of Schenker AG responsible for Land Transport. “As logistics partners, we assume responsibility for all processes, from the organization and coordination of pre- and post-transport processes via booking loading capacities through to chronological sequence planning for cars and containers including customs formalities and warehousing services. We offer the whole package of value-added services from one source, closely dovetailed with our land transport services.”
The service DB SCHENKERrailog is used by customers from various industries. Manufacturers of white goods and consumer goods electronics, the furniture industry, the paper industry and companies from the steel and mining industries are among the customers. Furthermore, border crossing special transports, e. g. for agricultural and building machinery, as well as transports for industrial goods are also among the services offered.
Effective April 1, 2009, Daniel Wieland took over the responsibility for European Product Management at Land Transport, Schenker AG, Essen. He succeeds Karsten Sachsenröder who was responsible for this task next to his duty as Member of the Management Board of DB Schenker Rail (Sales). Even now, the Rail Logistics and Forwarding unit, with more than 300 personnel generating annual revenues of approximately 500 million Euros at 40 European sites, is one of the leading providers of rail-affiliated logistics in Europe.
